Tracking Down an ABS Fault on a Peugeot Expert from Oadby

Warning lights on the dashboard can be worrying, especially when they’re brake-related. This Peugeot Expert was brought to our garage in Leicester from Oadby with the ABS light glowing constantly on the dash. The van still drove, but the owner knew something wasn’t right and wanted it checked properly.

The First Checks

We started with a full diagnostic scan, which quickly pointed us towards one of the ABS sensors. The fault code showed a short circuit to ground, so the next job was to work out if the sensor itself had failed or if something further up the wiring was causing trouble.
On first inspection, the connector and pins looked fine (there was no corrosion and no obvious damage). That’s when Jordan, one of our techs, went a step further and carried out a continuity check on the wiring.

Finding the Real Problem

Following the wiring carefully, Jordan narrowed the fault down to a single section in the loom. Hidden under the insulation was a small break in the wire, but enough to interrupt the signal and trigger the ABS warning light.
Think of it that way.. it’s the sort of issue that doesn’t always show up at a quick glance, but with the right tests you can track it down to an exact point.

The Repair

Once the break was located, we carried out a proper wire repair, cutting out the damaged section and soldering in a new piece with heat-shrink protection. After that, the wiring was rerouted and secured to prevent future stress on the joint.
With everything back in place, we cleared the fault codes, restarted the van and checked live data from the ABS system, with no surprise, there were no more errors and warning lights.

Back on the Road

The Peugeot Expert left our workshop with its ABS system back in full working order. A simple wire fault, but one that needed the right approach and testing to find.
At our independent garage in Leicester, we see cases like this all the time (from small electrical issues that can easily be misdiagnosed without proper checks to entire engine rebuilds). It’s also one of the reasons over 390 local drivers have left us reviews on Google, trusting us to dig a bit deeper, explain the fault clearly, and put things right.
