Wet Belt Kit Replacement in Leicester of a Peugeot 3008
This 2018 Peugeot 3008, with just 43,000 miles, came into our Leicester garage all the way down from Evington after the owner noticed the engine sounding slightly off and running a bit rough. There was nothing dramatic on the surface, but happily enough to raise a concern and bring it in for a check.
What We Found
Once we opened the front of the engine, the issue became clear. Drum rolls… the **wet timing belt** had begun to break down internally, and unlike a dry belt, this one sits inside the engine and runs in oil. When the material starts to deteriorate, it sheds rubber particles straight into the oil system.
On this 3008, the debris had made its way down into the sump and blocked the oil pickup strainer. With oil struggling to circulate properly, the engine was at risk of low pressure and internal damage.
The Repair
We carried out a full wet belt kit replacement of this Evington vehicle (part of an engine repair service that we carry here in Leicester), including the belt, tensioner and guides. Once the old parts were out, we removed the sump and cleaned everything down thoroughly to clear out all rubber contamination from the oil pickup.
With the engine cleaned internally, we rebuilt everything, fitted a new oil filter, and filled the system with fresh, high-quality oil suited for wet belt engines.
After carrying out timing checks and a full post-repair inspection, the 3008 started and ran perfectly smooth, quiet, and with proper oil pressure restored.
Why These Jobs Matter
Wet belts often deteriorate with very little warning and a slight noise or small change in how the engine feels can be the only clue before pressure drops or internal components begin to suffer.
Replacing the belt early and clearing the sump avoids far more expensive repairs later, including oil pump failure, camshaft wear, and in some cases, full engine rebuilds.
Back on the Road
With the new belt fitted and the sump cleared of debris, the Peugeot 3008 is back to running right as it should. Another early catch, another big problem avoided.
At The Motor Company Leicester, we see wet belt issues regularly across modern Peugeot engines. It’s one of the reasons more than 390 local drivers have trusted us with their repairs and left us reviews on Google, it’s because we take the time to diagnose the cause properly and put things right.
