All Systems Go - Major Refresh for a Ford Focus ST

Hot hatches like the Ford Focus ST are built for fun, sharp handling, loads of torque, and a proper driver’s feel. But with power comes wear, and this 2016 2.0-litre diesel ST from Braunstone rolled in needing more than just a quick tune-up.

The owner had started noticing difficulty changing gear, especially under load, and a knocking feeling on take-off. There weren’t any dashboard warnings yet, but it was clear something big was brewing.

Full Diagnosis and No Half Measures

We took it for a test drive, and the signs were all there: worn clutch, possible gearbox damage, and a very tired flywheel. On further inspection, we also spotted signs that the cambelt was due and since the water pump runs on the same schedule, it made sense to tackle both while the car was in.

Rather than patch things up, the owner chose to do the job right and get everything done at once.

What We Replaced

Here’s what we carried out:

It’s the kind of job where you only want to go in once, so we made sure every gasket, bolt and torque spec was done by the book.

The Result? Tight, Responsive, and Ready Again

Once everything was fitted and tested, the Focus ST drove like it had been holding its breath for months … suddenly smooth, snappy, and back to doing what it does best.

Gear changes were seamless. No more juddering. No odd vibrations. And with the timing system and cooling sorted, the engine is now better protected for the miles ahead.

It’s easy to put these jobs off, but when done at the right time, they give your car a second life. That’s why so many drivers in Leicester trust us with the big stuff. With 350+ Google reviews, we’re proud to do the kind of work that earns repeat customers, not just one-off bookings.

If your Ford isn’t shifting like it should, or your cambelt’s coming up to its interval, drop us a line before it becomes a bigger (and louder) problem.
